I worked at Blockbuster part-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

The job was incredibly easy. Check in movies, check out movies, watch movies, give reviews to the customers, stock shelves, clean up the store, occasionally do an inventory scan; a pretty typical retail job. Also, health and dental benefits are available to part-time employees.

Cons

Customers will try to argue over late fees, regardless if they are justified or not (usually not). The pay is minimum wage at best if you are just a customer service representative and you will only get a raise as minimum wage increases from year to year. You also can be fired at any time for just about any reason.

    Pros

Easy tasks, shifts that work around your schedule, understanding management (at my store), you get to watch any movie or tv show you can think of for free, the same goes with the games except with a more limited restriction.

    Cons

Becomes monotonous at times, depending on your area customers can be really irritating at times, There are a lot of necessary but not really that fun tasks that need to be accomplished everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to cater each store to the environment it's in. I always felt that there would be too many blanket district decisions made on the basis of providing consistency between all the stores rather than to try to serve the customers who are actually going into them. Letting store managers have a bit more autonomy might have saved more stores.
