Current Employee - Software Developer in New York, NY
Current Employee - Software Developer in New York, NY

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Mostly great colleges
Good managers who cares about their employees
Transparency (anyone can find out what other employees are working on)
Opportunity to get training on the job
Employees are encouraged to move around and there are programs specifically set up for employees to find the right team
Management becoming more concerned about the needs of developers (every getting new computers and much bigger monitors)
Some good technical work done depending on the team

Cons

A lot of what you experience can vary drastically depending on your team (Unfortunately, some teams may have to maintain application written using out of date technology, but I think that is slowly changing for the better)
Some internal politics to deal with, but I think this inevitable in a company of this size

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is going in the right direction, keep it that way.
Give employees more structure.
Focus on ways to improve the software code quality and methodology to retain and attract talented employees.

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Since the products that the teams develop are entirely client/customer based, you will be involved in the entire software development life cycle process. Teams are switching over to new technology (that's a very good sign). The entire company is transparent. You know what different teams are working on and the developers are easy to approach to.

    Cons

Even though, the company has great volunteering program, there are not much employee networking events. Need a better software rollout process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More fun networking events.

Former Intern - Global Data Summer in New York, NY

I worked at Bloomberg L.P. as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

High paying internship, Bloomberg University, great intern events and experience, everyone is approachable even CEO/President (they were happen to help and be in our "internship video contest", free food/snacks/drinks/coffee, awesome office with glass walls and aquariums everywhere, great corporate culture of transparency and a good work/fun balance

    Cons

Some tasks are busy work, it is a large company so it may be harder to get recognition, tough interview to get a job after internship, not as likely to get a full time position as you would in other companies (namely the big accounting firms)
