I worked at Bloomingdale's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The employee discount and the beautifully remodeled store are the high points. Of course, many high-end brands are carried, and there is good selection in the merchandise for the shoppers. You get an hour for lunch, and a 20-minute break. Most of your co-workers are really nice people.

    Cons

hiring people at $9/hr, benefits getting skimpier every year. Walk around the store and see all the long faces. Schedule is given just 1 to 2 weeks in advance, and is changed without notice (often with less than a day's notice). This store does not promote from within. Getting days off approved is difficult. Not supportive if you want to take a class and need one set day of the week off, or one set day to be either a closing or an opening shift. You are very much made to feel like a "human resource" - something to be used up, and replaced easily.
