I have been working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Top level leadership has clear vision where to take the company. Very solid management and reputable characters.
Work expectations are pretty much on the level with other companies.
If lucky enough to be working for a good manager this could be a very good experience.
Avoid IT jobs if possible, I have nothing good to mention after 5 years.

    Cons

Retirement plan has been discontinued and 401K is offered as alternate option.
You would expect an excellent health plan for employees but this is not the case.
There are other companies in Arizona that offer better BCBSAZ health plans than what BCBSAZ offers to its own employees.
Middle level management departmental politics and favoritism is apparent in the mid level professional and "grunt position".
Although, the top level executives and the CEO are on the level, directors and below have a long ways to go.
This is NOT a Fortune 500 company and do not expect to be treated like an adult, it feels like an overgrown mom and pap store. High school education is acceptable for supervisor positions. Not good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When hiring for management positions, try to hire people better than yourself. By the time it gets down to "action level mgmt" quality is very poor. No A or B people here, only C and below.

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Hiring process and HR were very professional, other co-workers were friendly and welcoming, great pay and benefits, was excited and grateful to be hired.

    Cons

Direct supervisor had no experience in training new employee and was rude, slightly hostile and threatening. Unreasonable expectations after extremely minimal training; it was apparent that this situation would go from bad to worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide new employees with adequate training and instruction to do job they were hired for, focus on production and accomplishment rather than politics and power-tripping.
