I worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Good job, upper management tries to show employees appreciation. Depends on immediate supervisors/managers and job location. Overall a good company to work for.

Cons

immediate supervisors not great, CYA atmosphere. Supervisors need to actually know how to perform duties of people they supervise. No advancement opportunites unless working at main campus in BR.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have supervisors/managers who actually can do they direct reports job. Also, make sure satellite offices aren't just making up their own rules and doing things they way they want rather than the way BR expects it to be done.

I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana

    Pros

Atmosphere-wonderful, health benefits are second to none,

    Cons

promotional opportunities are not the best. although you're encouraged to go to school (college, etc.) it does not ensure any advancement within the company. your education is not taken into consideration and someone with no education but a little more experience will probably land the job in most cases. If you're looking for a place to advanced, this is really not the place. many are sitting on certificates (masters, bachelors) and trying to move within company and can not. can be very frustrating. those will be the main reasons people leave the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

company should look within more, and take into consideration those that have tried to develop themselves (education wise) while working for the company. More opportunites should be presented. People that have worked hard in school, and on the job and have given their best to the company should be rewarded. There shouldn't be so many employees seeking for advancement, but not receiving anything. Just like many state, and city jobs (although this company is not either of those) do take into consideration the training received, this company doesn't do a good job at presenting entry level positons for people who have gone the extra mile to study and receive their degrees especially in the area of Business (management or administration). Experience is great, but there should be opportunites that will give those with little experience, but have a degree and want to further their learning with the company they are employed better opportunites.
