Current Employee - Principal Consultant in Royal Tunbridge Wells, England (UK)

I have been working at Blue Pelican full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Rewarding, fun, relaxed and sociable.

Cons

As Blue Pelican were a growing business, some naive decisions have been made by the management in the past, but all mistakes and issues have (eventually been recognised and addressed or improved over time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to reward those who work hard and consistently perform, continue to swiftly address under performance and continue to hire appropriate consultants with a strong cultural fit for the business, rather than just looking for ability to bill.

I have been working at Blue Pelican full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Really good work/life balance
    Great feeling of family
Really wants to be perceived as a consultancy, not a CV factory. So tries to hire people who want to be real specialists and bring value to clients
    Not a hard sell environment
    Wide boys are not tolerated
Being ethical is a key principal value of the business
Really nice place to work where you can make a decent income (given you're not in London) and other rewards can be good too

    Cons

A bit stuck in the past at times. There isn't enough investment in ensuring the business is at the forefront of industry and can be skeptical of new things and ideas
In danger of becoming out of date compared to our competitors
Leadership can be slow to respond at times. Both to consultant issues and outside threats
Can be quite old skool in approach - e.g. phone, desk, computer, crack on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at changes in the external market and react quicker
Need to invest more in opportunities for mobile and online
Turn projects, which will push the business forward, faster.
Invest in better systems for consultants to use. The current ones feel, look and act old and does cause a lot of anguish
Do more things which can build the company name, rather than relying on old skool 'person and phone' approach. Other businesses have entered the same markets, built their name quicker and have overtaken us by doing other things.
