great coworkers
in general, decent hours
flexible schedule with arrival anywhere between 6-9 am
We now have our own social network

Cons

Silos continue in 4 years I've been here despite many different experiments to change culture
Revolving doors of senior management
No advancement opportunities
Every lead I've seen either steps down due to stress, or is driven out
Supervisor plays favorites
Daily process changes frequently, depending on whim of supervisor
Changes in process shared with select employees only

Advice to Management

I don't believe this company is capable of changing. Accept it or move on

    All the great partnerships and relationships that other companies that provide discounts and specials for employees of Blue Shield of California

    Cons

    Sometimes there is a break in communication between the employees and the upper management. But its more of a delay so to speak.

    Pros

    8-5pm work days and nice co-workers.

    Cons

    Many departments operate firedrill by firedrill
    Upper management micromanages and VPs end up being managers
    Many upper managers lack trust in employees
    Upper management is full of poorly performing leaders
    80's management style where everyone should be in the office
    Sick employees come into the office because sick time is combined with vacation time and working from home is not available to many
    IT organization is immature and in some ways disfunctional
    Failure to prioritize projects and set realistic goals
    High employee turnover
    Employee morale is extremely low

    Advice to Management

    Bring in expert outside leadership and especially for IT. Drive culture change from the top down rather than expect your managers to do it. Stop the bleeding with so many firedrills, scope projects realistically, drastically cut the number of projects to increase their changes of success, find a strong CIO to report to the CEO instead of the CFO, stop relying so much on temporary consultants, etc.
