I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    good benefits but EXPENSIVE
good cafe with great food that's not expensive

    Cons

Prepare to be micromanaged, salary is way below market, you work in a silo, upper management doesn't walk the walk, and the politics are disgusting. Your performance does nothing for good or bad.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The compensation package (salary + bonus opportunities) are good. Work-life balance is, on average, not bad. Lots of incentives for being healthy and adopting a more healthy lifestyle.

    Cons

I found surprising few people managers who are good at managing people. This is an environment with lots of politics and much time and energy is wasted navigating the shark infested waters.

Also, the health insurance offering is poor (premiums are very high, especially considering the benefit structure).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look carefully at the director layer to determine if they have the skills to take the organization to the next level. Some directors (and above) seem to have a hidden agenda and / or are lacking true management capabilities. In fact, people management is not valued in this organization and that needs to change in order for this organization to evolve and be successful.
