    I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    good benefits but EXPENSIVE
    good cafe with great food that's not expensive

    Cons

    Prepare to be micromanaged, salary is way below market, you work in a silo, upper management doesn't walk the walk, and the politics are disgusting. Your performance does nothing for good or bad.

    Hard to watch as the company struggles

    I have been working at Blue Shield Of California full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Competitive salary & bonus
    - Known for promoting within (this is also a con)

    Cons

    Years of poor executive decisions related to organizational structure, technology choices and placing the wrong people in critical positions is running its toll. Promoting within has caused the company to have an Insurance savvy workforce at the cost of structuring the organization for long term success. Many employees are constantly in fear of their jobs as executive management attempts yet another reorg to fix the deeply ingrained issues. Some depts. being impacted over and over again. This has caused a serious morale issue which is in turn affecting the customer experience.

    Pick the right people and value recommendations from those who have made a success outside the insurance industry.
