I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

It seems that the bonus system was above average.

Cons

Direct and upper management were clueless, lacked any real management skills and very short sighted. I was there during the "Schwab" era when the CTO and her cronies were in charge. Apparently, things haven't changed. Presently, we have a CTO who's slowly filling the ranks w/ his cronies.

On top of that, this insurance company also had the worst health insurance benefits for employees with families. My coverage was limited and expensive.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO and the board should look carefully at who they hire. And stop w/ the short term goals. A CTO or VP w/ a 5-year plan doesn't have your company's best interest in mind.

    Friendly staff, nice building, actively connected to the community, always keeping things moving and progressing, customer-oriented

    Cons

    Fast-paced difficult job for people who aren't used to it.
