I have been working at Blue Shield Of California full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good location, benefits, pay. Flexibility

Cons

Reorg took a year and a half and has led to lots of instability. Required working three jobs instead of my one since they laid off so many people. No support in the crazy times of ridiculous workload.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lay off people during the busiest time without having people to backfill the positions. Why hire contractors when you just laid off people with better skill sets? Wait 90 days to get through the busy time nyc then lay them off

Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good location close to nice restaurants, shopping, museums, etc.
    Free flu shots
Easy access to BART, Transbay Bus Terminal and Ferries

    Cons

Unhealthy work environment in terms of support and career advancement
Management will give lots of praise and assurances of your value to company, but do nothing to support your career advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees that work hard and deliver on work that promotes company profitability instead of promoting only their managers.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Some friendly people, opportunity to be creative,

    Cons

Poor talent/succession planning, some upper management wouldn't even speak to managers and other staff, managers had to function in a cubicle which was unacceptable for appointments with direct reports

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Walk around and say hello to managers and other once every few months! It sometimes felt like high school there since senior management viewed some employees as the in-group and some the out-group.
