I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

If you are in EDH, great cafe, gym and other benefits. The people you work with for the most part are great.

Cons

Management is terrible. It's always been terrible but getting worse. The upper management has no connection with the workers, decisions are made with no comprehension of the real world effects.

Advice to Management

Try retaining some of the high performers, long term employees. Most of you have no idea how the company actually works.

    Cons

Lots of upper management. Pay is ok could be better. Not enough incentives and no holiday parties only luncheon.

I have been working at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This organization has MANY very, very intelligent people motivated to do the right thing, engage their partners, and be thoughtful in helping Blue Shield achieve its mission. Very fast paced environment requiring nimble problem solving and movement.

    Cons

Very political landscape. Initiatives/projects are greenlighted based more on relationship and potential value it brings to the person approving than applying thoughtful evaluation and insight into the global perspective of the organization. Lots of jockeying for management/leadership attention to validate individual credibility and value. Extremely POOR work-life-balance. Bare bones staffing models, limited lift in automation and/other systematic tools results in 10-12 hour days and burdensome workarounds as the norm. Executive HR leadership de-investing in long-term employees.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk, talk the talk.
