I have been working at BlueScope Steel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a great safety culture. Good, friendly people to work with. Not a lot of stress, most of the time. It's not just an office job, the manufacturing plant is intriguing and always surprising. There is a good sense of community that pulls together in hard times.

    Cons

Excessive paperwork can get in the way of logic. In a large company, politics can play a bigger role than it should.
    Self development can be difficult.

I have been working at BlueScope Steel as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Communication is clear between department managers and all members of the team; expectations of contract employees is clear from the start and the willingness to help with new tasks as assigned is abundant.

    Cons

The department I'm in is not designed in such a way as to easily maneuver to the desks of co-workers, nor to see who is and is not at their desk.
