Bob Evans – “Waiting Tables at Bob Evans”
Pros
As a server at Bob Evans I can safely say I have enjoyed working for the company. For starters I feel that I have always made a good deal of money there. I didn't get the best shifts at first but after a little time there the shifts became available. I work nights and it's nice that we are only open until 10pm. I usually leave around 11-1130 so I still get home with some night left to spare (compared to most restaurants that are open til one or two a.m.). The company likes to keep managers moving around to other stores so you get to meet a lot of the management. Having a new manager every 6 months or so helps you to meet new people and builds a sort of family atmosphere within the company.
Cons
Bob Evans is not franchised but controlled by a corporate office. Because of this there are often some policies handed down from corporate that we in the restaurants see unfit. Also it is sometimes difficult to get a day off if needed. Very rarely will a manager allow you to take a day off unless you have your shift covered. Finally the benefits that are offered at Bob's are certainly not the greatest. Healthcare is a little costly and not the greatest coverage. Also it is difficult to attain the full time status because the individual restaurants have to pay that out of their pocket.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to more feedback from the restaurants, we're the ones that are down in the trenches everyday.
