I worked at Boeing full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Very nice folks at Boeing. Interesting and hard problems to solve. Good work hours and environment, with the chance to do a variety of things because Boeing is so big.

Cons

Software methodology is not consistent across the company, and mostly out of date. Boeing doesn't consider itself a software company, and doesn't prioritize excellence in this area as highly as they ought to. And they're still using waterfall in some places, and just starting to think about switching to Agile in a few places, when they should've switched years ago.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow junior software developers who are into open source and agile development the chance to help shape the Boeing software development process.

I worked at Boeing as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

many experts to learn from, employees are very welcoming to interns and will answer questions, great HR effort for interns

    Cons

The office is "old" age-wise. Not many young people to interact with, it also depends on your department though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enable people to move up the ranks at a faster pace. Establish more of a meritocracy.

I worked at Boeing as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Huge company which allows for horizontal/vertical movement to any group
Easy to meet people from other groups/functions

    Cons

Huge company makes it hard to stand out
Work environment/atmosphere can be dull depending on work location
    Very slow-moving company
Boeing is an engineering company, so it focuses on that aspect and employees in engineering-related functions
Experience in one group can be completely different from group-to-group

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something unique for the interns. There aren't many intern-wide events, so it can be up to senior managers within each group to bring all the interns within his/her group together. Make business employees feel as needed as much as engineering employees
