Bon-Ton Stores – “DEAD END JOB”

It's comfortable there, and the other sales associates are great to work with, I've made some life long friends there. Also, if you work in a clientele driven department (I.E. Cosmetics) The customers and relationships you build with them can be fun!
Cons
I have worked for Younkers for MANY years, and in several stores throughout Iowa. While it's comfortable there, store management is INCOMPETENT, unnecessarily demanding, inconsiderate, condescending, etc...they find every way to take all the fun out of work! The sales goals are out of control and nearly impossible, and when you do make your goals, you never hear anything other than what you can do better next time. they are unappreciative. Corporate younkers is just as bad, you are not an associate but a number. There is no opportunity for creative development, leadership skills development, or advancement with in the company...oh and the hours/shifts/schedules are AWFUL. Also, if you're sick and call in they will hold it against you in the future! there also NO job security there, they have been laying people off across the board for months now.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your associates like people, not numbers. Pay them decent wages and quit taking all their benefits! give them opportunities to grow, and be challenged. we are smarter than you think. positive reinforcement is better than write ups! and the credit program is a JOKE! further more, don't treat us like children, you can't run those stores with out us!
