Bon-Ton Stores – “Fairly Nice Place to Work, Just Avoid My Department”
0 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
Outside of my department (Shoes), the store is generally a good place to work. Managers have their moments but then again who doesn't? The staff is generally friendly and fun to work with. When I work with certain people it can make the day go by much better.
Cons
As a store they really need back off with their obsession with people opening in-store credit applications and recognize the fact that nationally people are cutting back on things like store cards and such.
In my department the management issue needs to be seriously addressed. The sales area manager for my department is there practically 24/7 which creates an oppressive environment. Employees are subjected to derogatory comments about other employees and are not trusted at all by the manager. There is also a lack of discipline when it comes to sales theft (we are a commissioned department) which has created some tense situations having to involve upper-level managers. If the manager does not like you she will make it a point to make you quit. Manager can also come across as extremely sugary and fake when apologizing to you.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. When complaints are continuing to be registered from all over the store about an individual, it is time to seriously crack down or remove that individual. There is a reason for these bad reviews and high turnover.
Quit listening to research that tells you that people having credit cards shop there more and focus on offering good products at good prices with good service.
