Books-A-Million – “Do Not Work Here.

Books-A-Million Manager in Birmingham, AL:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

There are none-- perhaps the discount is nice. The company is open 364 days a year, they do not pay holiday pay (even on Thanksgiving!), they are open until 11 o'clock every night of the week, and if you close, you will not be done before midnight. If you are full time, paid vacations or nonexistent.

Cons

Little to no respect, expected to work Thanksgiving (without holiday pay), pay is well below average, corporate has absurd expectations and offers no training or support. Management is below par, and there is little room for growth, promotion or movement within the company.

Advice to Senior Management

Start from scratch, if you invest time and money in your employees you would see the results you wish to see. Setting unreachable goals, and offering no support or training on how to reach those goals is hardly effective.
