Books-A-Million Co-Manager Cafe:   (Current Employee)

Pros

The only real reason to work for Books-A-Million is the employee discount. This is offered on top of any discount already offered on the title which means you can purchase a top ten bestseller for elss than half its list price.

Cons

The discount card and magazine programs are vital to your continued employment and if the goals are not met, you receive a severe chewing out. The lack of real communication from upper management is reprehensible, and the lack of autonomy for each store or section manager is equally loathsome. The company's relaince on number crunching accountants to drive policy changes is ineffective. The lack of real-world expereince from upper management is annoying.

Advice to Senior Management

Get your behinds out of your office chairs in Florence and get to your stores and work a shift, preferably on a Saturday in the cafe. You cannot rely on the numbers to give you any realistic idea of what's happening in your stores.
