I worked at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Training in how to write proposals, run a project, give presentations, and collaborate. Top-notch peers and exposure to major clients.

Cons

Long hours, stress, lots of paperwork, very stressed out bosses.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My understanding is that after going public, BAH began cutting back on perqs and increasing pressure on employees to prove their worth. This is so obviously and ridiculously suicidal it's a wonder the board is allowing it. Employees accept lower than industry wages because of the benefits and the exposure to big clients. They have all the stress they can handle. Reducing one and cranking up the other will not allow BAH to retain or attract the sorts of employees that made it an excellent company.

Booz Allen is a great integrity based team of professionals focused on "over delivering" to clients in all they do.

I worked at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time

    Pros

Totally integrity based firm. Unlike many who claim it, they live it in all they do. Much less structured than most firms, they work together without artificially driven boundaries or turf drivers...but as a total team focused on exceeding client expectations in everything they do.

    Cons

While their client delivery is beyond compare, internally, the firm struggles with how to manage itself, constantly morphing (rearranging deck chairs), and often overlooks the importance of developing specialty functions that could alleviate strain on their client delivery staff and grow business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a basic model and stick with it for a while. Consider building non-billable, or minimally billable specialty positions such as BD and Proposal development leads to build experience and focus dedicated attention to areas that are crucial to building new and sustained business.

I worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Vast contract and multiple disciplined opportunities as a consultant. Majority of work focus is military deployed systems of record where services are truly needed. A large volume of work outside Continental US. A winner and contract holder in almost all available Government contracts.

    Cons

Large company with many cumbersome processes to get paid. Company is very tight on resources and will not carry personnel on overhead while waiting for new contract renewals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Booz Allen Hamilton is a good company to work for; however, you must always be able to depend the "value added proposition" you bring to the table.
