Pros

Booz Allen has a great network and resource system. They're able to draw on expertise from all facets of the company.

Cons

It is a very political employee management system. I've seen managers who have all of their staff complain about unprofessionalism and conflict but because this person was a friend of higher management, they received an bonus during their annual review. They preach a fair "360" review system, but it's not. Unless you know how to play the political game, you will not move ahead in this company. This is true even if your work is considered stellar.

    Pros

Talented people, some interesting and amazing projects, great opportunities to learn

    Cons

The firm is more concern for short-term profit, and not long-term firm stability and institutional knowledge. Talented experienced staff, who are the true leaders of the firm are being pushed out as soon as the hit a low billability period regardless of long-term contribution or relevance for future works. Right now, if you are just a monkey with a wrench that is billable, you are fine. All the Core Values that the firm used to have a live by are now empty words in a piece of paper.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to understand that Booz Allen WAS a great firm, not because it “delivered results that endure”, (one of the marketing phrases the firm uses) but because it was not only very selective of the people it hired, but they protected them and ensuring they had careers that ENDURED. In return, the firm’s excellent staff felt pride to be part of a great firm and did always the best. Management needs to be more concern with the staff and stop treating them like raw meat in an meat grinder.

I have been working at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The firm will take care of it's employees. You can have your schooling paid for, great educational opportunities, and the ability to do side projects if you want. The cultural diversity at BAH is an excellent starting point for many people fresh out of school and the possibility of career advancement is second to none.

    Cons

Leadership is disconnected from the lower levels and often, mid-level leaders will encourage violation of time reporting policies. In particular, having one report less hours than they actually work. For example, working 60 hours in support of the client, only to be told do not report more than 50 hours for the week otherwise you will draw "unwanted attention" and make your life difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the policies and procedures of the firm. Currently, the system has no means to accurately report harassment, time reporting violations, or other ethical implications anonymously when one works on a remote site with a small team.
