Pros

Booz Allen has a great network and resource system. They're able to draw on expertise from all facets of the company.

Cons

It is a very political employee management system. I've seen managers who have all of their staff complain about unprofessionalism and conflict but because this person was a friend of higher management, they received an bonus during their annual review. They preach a fair "360" review system, but it's not. Unless you know how to play the political game, you will not move ahead in this company. This is true even if your work is considered stellar.

    Pros

Booz Allen has a large base of talented, young, and energetic Consultants and Senior Consultants. There are many opportunities to form collaborative teams and learn from this superb group of young professionals. Because Booz Allen Hamilton is a company of 22k worldwide it can leverage exceptional benefits at very low costs to the employees.

    Cons

Booz Allen promotes the concept of work-life balance, but this is a facade. The leadership assigns extensive amounts of work to the personnel that is outside the client's requirements. It is impossible to do all the work during normal hours while balancing the client's needs with the company's needs. Many Associates and Senior Associates are doing work at home to satisfy the company's internal reporting requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management needs to spend more time actually interacting with their teams rather than chasing the next proposal or contract win. Spending 60-90 minutes with team members, once a week, does not constitute good leadership. The mentorship process is almost non-existent at Booz Allen. The management definitely does not balance the concept of knowing and helping their personnel with securing profits for the company. The basics of leadership are often lost with some of the Senior Associates and Principals.

    Pros

The firm will take care of it's employees. You can have your schooling paid for, great educational opportunities, and the ability to do side projects if you want. The cultural diversity at BAH is an excellent starting point for many people fresh out of school and the possibility of career advancement is second to none.

    Cons

Leadership is disconnected from the lower levels and often, mid-level leaders will encourage violation of time reporting policies. In particular, having one report less hours than they actually work. For example, working 60 hours in support of the client, only to be told do not report more than 50 hours for the week otherwise you will draw "unwanted attention" and make your life difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the policies and procedures of the firm. Currently, the system has no means to accurately report harassment, time reporting violations, or other ethical implications anonymously when one works on a remote site with a small team.
