Pros

Good work environment. They really look for the best employees. The company also has very good tuition reimbursment policies. Good company overall.

Cons

A good deal of internal career development time required. You will also spend a lot of time doing self assessments and participating in brown bags.

Advice to Management

Make the assessment process a little easier. Spending 10 hours doing a self assessment is ridiculous. If consultants get paid overtime, pay them overtime.

    Pros

Great professional development opportunities. Opportunity to work with very talented, intelligent people from all over the world. Opportunity to grow a professional network. Potential to work with diverse clients. Proven personal reputation leads to greater flexibility in terms of where you work from. Company takes ethical and legal policies extremely seriously. Innovation is still alive and well at the firm.

    Cons

Work / Life balance is a myth and burnout is the norm. Expect to work nights and weekends for the sake of business development. Bringing in new business is essential to getting promoted and is central to the company culture. You won't make as much money as other consulting firms. Intra-company politics play highly into every decision made. Lack of transparency from leadership about company's strategic vision. Executive communications cryptic and this permeates down through lower management levels. Job security is a myth. Increasingly an "up or out" culture.

    Advice to Management

Be more forthright with employees about the vision and strategy of the firm. Pay your consistently strong performers at market levels. Be more strategic in how you allocate staff with specialized skills and avoid becoming a warehouse operation.

    Pros

You can grow your own career any direction you would like and learn from some highly intelligent people, if and there a big if, you find a willing client. Sitting on site has it's ups and downs. If you are a self starter and someone that can please a client and balance the Booz Allen required face time, then you are probably fine.

    Cons

Some teams are good and some not, if you happen to have a leader who is overly concerned about moving up the ladder, you will be tossed into the churn without much guidance, other than working on proposal after proposal. The churn can be grueling with no sense of direction. If you have the energy and self confidence you will survive.

    Advice to Management

People who sit on site with clients are often the face of the company, not just butts in seats. More emphasis should be given to those who speak to the clients on a daily basis and not the leads that have a 1 hour meeting once in a blue moon. If you are making the client happy, then Booz profits. That should be the 1st priority. I'm sad that it's not.
