Sweat shop culture, very clique'ish, good if you're a Lebanese workaholic

Pros

- The compensation is above average for other GMCs particularly the tax free salaries and housing allowances put you up there with what people two levels above you would make in other regions
- Some of the projects are quite interesting, also the firm is showing willingness to go to places off the beaten path (Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, etc.)

Cons

- There is a total sweat-shop mentality on project teams - if you're not working (or showing face) for 14+ hours a day you're perceived to be a slacker (often there is work on weekends as well)
- Some managers only care about slide development and don't really coach or guide you in the right direction - many times you're left to fend for yourself
- The staffing process is completely based on who you know and the relationships you've developed with that team any attempt to try something new is publicly supported but privately halted
- Very silo mentality, not only in terms of industry focus, but also partner teams within a specific industry. Partners are their own P/Ls
- There is a clear bias towards those that are Lebanese as 90% of the partners and the vast majority of principals are Lebanese. Leadership clearly does not value diversity.
- Even though there are 360 appraisal reviews the process/application is broken - people can say whatever they want behind your back. The outcomes do not accurately reflect true performance, rather perceptions
- All of the above leads to a very poor office culture in Dubai. There are many activities that have popped up recently to improve culture, but time and time again they continue expecting people to come out and show support when most consultants would rather catch up on much needed sleep or spend time with their families/kids.

Advice to Management

The time for listening and holding workshops to understand the core issues is over. Its time to put the pedal to the metal and change the way we work. The best way to do this is at the team level. Make job managers and handling officers accountable for the teams well being. Are juniors being coached and developed? Are the working hours reasonable? How many slides did you do that never saw the light of day? and so on...

    Pros

-The firm really invests in employee development. They have a robust assessment program and mentorship program.
-The people at Booz are highly intelligent, down-to-earth, and friendly. Great to work with!

    Cons

-Employees have little flexibility in the types of projects they are staffed.
-Firm is very risk adverse and hesitant to expand work into new, innovative, and growing areas.

    Advice to Management

You should communicate more to employees. Large organizational decisions were made and implemented with very little information flowing down to the employees. This created an atmosphere of insecurity that was highly destructive and distracting.

  2. Best GMC firm to work for - and bonus - no ego's!

    Pros

Amazing group of mentors and network that have rallied around me to ensure I get the development I need and continue to advance in the firm

    Cons

Has a broad set of capabilities and offerings they can take to clients, but some functions and practices are better integrated than others

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on the client and the team, feels like at time partners are focused on their comp payout/ revenue goals, as long as serving the client's most important issues and developing the juniors, growth will follow
