Borders – “Making the tough decisions that need to be made; holding employees accountable

May 18, 2009

3.0

Borders Anonymous:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

The product and the connection with ideas. It is a pleasure to work with customers that are educated and appreciate the written word. Borders has a very intelligent and dedicated workforce.

Cons

Distressed industry due to the increased competition in bookselling, the decline of CD and DVD sales and the alternate means of entertainment available to the customer base. Borders is a financially troubled company due to declining sales and debt load which is then reflected in compensation and benefits available to employees.

Advice to Senior Management

Stay focused; innovate; communicate; motivate; find ways to reward and recognize the workforce; reward and recognize the right people.
