I have been working at Boston Biomedical full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Working at Boston Biomedical is as exciting as it is challenging. The environment is positive, busy and fast paced. The opportunities for growth are endless (in all departments of the company). The mission of the company is to cure cancer, and the teams are passionate and enthusiastic about this cause. Hard work and dedication is acknowledged and rewarded.

Other perks; incredibly nice and caring co-workers, beautiful labs and offices, huge parking lot, gym in the building.

Cons

Long hours and occasionally rough commute. The management recognizes this, though, and allows shifting of works hours to avoid traffic or accommodate family schedules etc.

I worked at Boston Biomedical full-time

    Pros

    1) New facility right on the Charles.
    2) Lots of snacks in the kitchen.
    3) Employees are respectful and helpful of each other.

    Cons

    1) It is standard practice to establish illogical/irrational/superfluous deadlines without rhyme or reason.
    2) Said illogical deadlines are pushed and when they pass without product, *you* are held accountable in the form of A) Lack of promotion, B) Lack of raises, C) Increased micromanagement (emphasis on increased), or D) embarrassment.
    3) Promotions/raises are consistently mentioned in the context of the corporate structure behaving like a meritocracy (You're rewarded based on your work output). The reality is that your work is not valued or rewarded. Instead, small raises are doled out en masse as a means of damage control to decrease the rate of employee turnover.
    4) Professional growth/upward mobility is practically impossible. If entering as a Postdoc, you will (with favorable probability) remain in Postdoc prison for years, despite the facade of moderate title promotions.
    5) Critical groups that in any other biotech, would be attached at the hip, do not communicate with each other. Ever. And if you ask to see corroborating data to statements made in corporate meetings you'll be hand-waved into oblivion.
    6) Your hours are counted and logged.
    7) The flat structure, so heavily advertised, doesn't exist. It is strictly top-down management.
    8) Middle management has *no say* in terms of department-specific goals/paths/strategies; good luck getting real support in advancing your work.
    9) Salaries *are not* industry standard by any metric, despite the rhetoric.
    10) Departmental meetings are unproductive; Collaborative discussion is suppressed; Advice/directives on project path/strategy from senior management is commonly bewildering and all too often directly contradictory over time.
    11) Please do your due diligence before working here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is difficult to believe that you value your employees. Treat them right, and they will stop leaving.

I have been working at Boston Biomedical full-time

    Pros

An exciting innovative place to work. The company is expanding rapidly and therefore there are lots of opportunities to advance at all levels. As deliverables are often highly demanding, one can make visible difference if he/she is capable and the reward is fast career advancement. Fast-learners who are self-driven, diligent, focused and reliable will do well here while pure talkers may not.

    Cons

The company's HQ moved from Norwood to Cambridge and everyday commute is more challenging now
