Pros

Its a truly unique place to work - very enriching, challenging and generally with a very good and strong culture. Its hard work and long hours (you know that before), but you its amazing how much you can do not only in this job but specifically this company. People have a high integrity, are in general very supportive and its a great place to learn a wide range of capabilities.

Cons

Firstly: Work-life balance vastly differs depending on the practice area you specialize in, but in some specific ones it certainly critical.
Secondly: Even though the performance review process is well developed the promotion process (in performance-quintiles) is not very transparent and could certainly be improved.
Lastly: More appreciation of good performance and supporting the top-performers better would not hurt.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great place - maintain the great culture but see that you better support the high performers and show them your appreciation. Support more international staffing. Increase transparency on the promotion/CD process.

I worked at Boston Consulting Group

    Pros

Great people to work with - combination of smart brains and nice personalities
Some projects can be very exciting
Lots of career development opportunities (training and coaching)

    Cons

Increasing number of "middle management" issues rather than top strategy topics
    Culture becoming more rigid
Promotion decisions based more on loyalty to certain bosses rather than your competence
Partners too much focused on selling - concerned on their own survival maybe?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to focus too much on selling and think about what BCG should do
    Make promotion process more transparent
Apply more "up or out" policy at principal and patner levels, not only at associate and consultant levels

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group

    Pros

Steep learning curve - many strategy projects, smart folks; good culture - people respect each other; relatively high pay within industry

    Cons

Work-life balance is no good; lots of travel - many consultants get to see their family only during the weekends

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be very careful when hiring lateral hires, as it could easily kill the morales of existing employees; promotion standard quite different among systems;
