I worked at Boston University as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

I loved gaining experience working at Boston University. I was helping process new applicants for the Fall Admission. The staff was excellent to work with there. The training and feedback on work was excellent. It was often busy so day went by fast. It is easy to get commute to.

Cons

It was a contact position so the pay was not high and there were no benefits. The only draw back is it is on the green line. There is no parking provided since it is in Boston.

I have been working at Boston University part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great intellectual atmosphere, large number of renowned scholars, occasionally very smart students, low work load for grad students; lots of perks.

    Cons

Low stipend, fellowship, or teaching compensation for grad students; the variance of student quality is huge; no campus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the support for grad students. $18000/year is not really competitive, especially in an expensive city like Boston. A lot of universities in the middle of nowhere are giving out $25-30k for PhD fellowships.

I have been working at Boston University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Location is the best. Life is convenient. I worked here as research assistant for 4 years. The courses are pretty good. The research quality is quite satisfactory.

    Cons

ENG school is small. The living expense in Boston is very high, which RA salary is relatively low. However, it is not problem only for BU. The RA salary is even lower in public university.
