A graduate assistantship with a healthy modicum of control over the syllabus in the second year.

    I worked at Bowling Green

    Pros

Most importantly it's an inroad to experience teaching at the collegiate level. The teaching load is limited to a 1-1 teaching load in the first year and a 1-2 load the second year. I was quite happy with the opportunities provided and learned a great deal.

    Cons

The bar for student selectivity at the university is relatively low, so oftentimes unnecessary time is spent teaching students skill they should have picked up in high school. A great deal of time is often consumed focused on teaching courses, but this is really just the nature of an assistantship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The immediate management, the general studies writing department, is quite helpful and instructive. The overall university leadership tends to lose sight of the university's goal and seems more intent on raking in students than providing a quality education.
