Former Employee - District Executive  in  Greeley, CO
Former Employee - District Executive in Greeley, CO

I worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time for more than a year

Pros

Scouting is a fantastic program that brings families together and helps youth develop their skills and interest. Executives get good exposure to many different aspects of society and opportunities to develop many skills. Some councils are better than others.

Cons

Complete disregard for work-life balance and executive's personal development. Fraudulent pursuit of goals (especially membership) are often encouraged by management. 60-80 hours per week at very low pay are the norm. Group-think mentality keeps getting the organization in trouble. Lacks innovation.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect executives like partners rather than slaves.

I have been working at Boy Scouts of America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You have an opportunity to work with dedicated volunteers and make a difference in your community. The various job duties you have, give you great experience working with different people. You fundraise, work with an executive board of volunteers, public speak and run events in your community. Great training program.

    Cons

The job duties and expectations can be overwhelming at times. Not a great work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff at the bottom need to be treated with respect if you want employees to stay in their postions.
