Camp is a great experience, but management is very political.

I worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Extremely rewarding.
Coworkers become a family.

Cons

Very political, a lot of brown nosing will get you places.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more selective about camp administration. They have weeded out some great people who genuinely cared and replaced them with low-quality employees

I worked at Boy Scouts of America as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Learned so much in the way of leadership. Got to work outdoors in a remote environment doing things I love that most would consider play.

    Cons

The pay was pretty much non existant

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys rocked, always encouraging the best out of us.

I worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ok for an entry level job. Good benefits. Gives you a true look at the harsh realities of the real world.

    Cons

They don’t care for your personal time. Long and ridiculous hours, including working on Sundays. Yes, Sundays. Poor opportunities for advancement. Awful upper management. Only care about raising money to pay bills. Could care less about the values of the program itself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to inspire your staff by showing that you actually care about the Scouting rather than just the numbers.
