I have been working at Boy Scouts of America full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

A great 1st career move, with a supportive team and very growth oriented. I have freedom to manage my schedule. Overseeing many responsibilities keeps a District Executive busy and challenged. The field we work in is very rewarding and it gives me great pride to have a part in developing young men and women.

Cons

It could be very easy to lose sight of personal goals. 60+ hour work weeks with some mandatory weekends. not for the faint of heart, you must believe and live the ideals of the scouting program.

I worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Making a difference, ok training, great volunteers

    Cons

too political, 1970's style managers - Corporate Culture is way of date. Pay is way too low for the zillions of hours that you will work. Be Prepared.....to not have much of life and to work for a micro-manager that talks a good talk. Anyone that stays with the org for too long is to be considered inept and broken

    Advice to Management

Be Prepared....to be in the business of becoming much smaller

I worked at Boy Scouts of America as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

We got to meet kids from all over the country and socialize with them. On our time off we could enjoy everything the camp had to offer.

    Cons

We were often over worked and under paid. They started overcrowding the camp and didn't hire enough staff to run the camp efficiently. the majority of the summer we worked 16hr shifts with maybe an hour off.

    Advice to Management

Pay the staff better or hire more help.
