I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital

Pros

Great benefits at a very reasonable cost. Probably the best healthcare insurance available anywhere. Generous vacation allowances and personal days make it a really good place to work, particulrly for someone who wants to find a balance between work and home.

Cons

Hospital is in a transition mode and changes are happening very quickly, sometimes before all of the plans are developed.

I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital

    Pros

People generally are very friendly; MDs and clinical staff accessible, pleasant, and easy to communicate with; good teamwork, staff overall is hardworking.

    Cons

7:1 nurse-patient ratio for RNs is typical; limited opportunity for RNs to switch into other areas of interest (other than ED, ICU, float pool), ongoing staffing shortages; older facility / not as modern as other local hospitals, dress code not enforced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please figure out a way to address staffing shortages without expecting regular staff RNs and PCTs to always cover the shortages. We work terribly hard during our regular shifts and already give up weekends, holidays, and risk injury and burnout to care for our patients.
