I have been working at Brightcove

    Pros

    - People are consistently friendly and helpful, not because they have to be but because they want to be. Questions are welcomed and encouraged; the environment is very positive and laid-back, but at the same time, everyone works hard and gets things done.
    - Management is proactive and really tries to listen to what employees are saying and translate that into action. Employees are encouraged to speak up if they feel they are not being heard.
    - No politics to speak of. This is where the emphasis on building culture has really paid off.
    - Work-life balance is important, and time off when necessary is seen as a good thing.

    Cons

    - Sometimes being nice ends up above speaking up. Creative, constructive conflict is a good thing.
    - Close quarters. Moving to a new office will probably resolve this, but there's minimal privacy to do things like take a phone call.
    - Inter-team communication isn't quite what it ought to be, though effort is certainly made
    - Different departments (e.g., sales and engineering) are out of touch with each other for the most part - there are areas where each could help the others improve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be very careful of ending up out of touch with your rank-and-file employees as the company grows, and putting customers' happiness above your employees' - if anything kills the company culture, it will be bureaucracy and becoming distant from the little guy. The flexibility within the company is a great asset, and the servant-leader paradigm works extremely well. Don't let that slip.

I have been working at Brightcove full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fantastic location in Covent Garden, right in the centre of London. Superb people - smart, ethical, really hard-working but they all love to have fun. Technology is proven, it works and development is constant. Customers are incredible and understanding how the technology helps them is a huge bonus

    Cons

Way too much to do every single day. It's relentless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget the culture and passion that got us to where we are now.
