I worked at Broadcom

Pros

Excellent engineering-focused environment. Broadcom started with a lot of core technical knowledge and has continued to acquire more every year. Large percentage of Engineers and PhD's in the workforce. Startup-like mentality means plans move ahead quickly for corresponding market success.

Cons

Risk of burnout; projects with less upside or longer payback have a hard time getting funded. Your experience may vary depending on which part of Broadcom emplys you - as an ongoing roll-up of many startups there is always cultural integration in process at various stages in various places. Another problem with the acquisition strategy is that founders or key members may leave the newly-acquired division quickly. Especially true now the share price is lower.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to develop a brand identity at the retail level, e.g. a "Broadcom Inside" kind of campaign. Make people know the value of the excellent engineering they get with Broadcom-designed components included.

    Pros

strong engineers, diversified portfolio, good reputation in this industry

    Cons

poor marketing, bad strategy, inconsistent execution

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

review portfolio, restructuring unsuccessful business, focus on profit instead of market share in downturn cycle,
eliminate one middle layer management and restore innovation culture as before since efficiency has gone down a lot

I have been working at Broadcom

    Pros

opportunity to learn; new facilities at work

    Cons

long working hours; not much visibility from upper management; benefits keep getting cut back year-over-year because of crazy hiring in wireless division but no real revenue seen yet; stock price is going nowhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be more openness to employees and value them more; if employee benefits are to be cut, management should take the lead and cut their own benefits first.
