    I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great commute to and from my home!

    Cons

    It seems as if they reward more "insufficient " workers than they do sufficient workers. When I went to work there a year or so ago, I LOVED the job BUT when they added the new people and starting giving them the bonuses for doing their job, it became to much. How are you going to give people bonuses for doing the bare minimum and yet you have workers that go ABOVE and BEYOND their duties, who don't get nothing but more, more, more and more work. Then you have the famous "slackers" that do whatever the heck they want and NOTHING is ever said to them! It is one of the most one-sided companies I have ever worked for. I really feel sorry for the people that are still there.

    Don't treat your employees as differently as you do!

    Pros

    Wonderful community
    In-community Department heads are committed to the residents
    Strong activity program for residents

    Cons

    Regional/senior management do not have knowledge of the basic community functions, trying to fit communities into a box (all communities are unique)
    Senior management Needs to live by the in mission and cornerstones, if those have been changed then associates need to be informed
    Significant waste of resources at regional/interium level "all chiefs, no Indians"
    Lack of accountability on all levels
    Poor leadership
    No formal on the job training program
    Interium staff who fill open management positions on a temp. Basis are often incompetent and travel because they don't get along with people when in a traditional team setting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give the same respect to the associates you expect as a manager
    Don't make promises you can't keep
    Get rid of excess staff who don't contribute to the "bottom line"
    Change the mission and cornerstones because the company no longer upholds those values
