I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than an year)

Pros

You work with the elderly. They are the ones that make your day better.

Cons

Management, My manager always had favorites. Very sexists (towards men), Management brings their problems to work, usually take it out on the employes. No fairness.I was only allowed to work 32 hours weekly, If you work more then 32 hours. You would get called in to the office by Senior Management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking about your bonuses, and start thinking about the people that are working for you. Stop belittling people and your staff. It doesn't matter if your male or female we can all do the same job.

Doesn't Recommend
No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Residents, front line associates - ability to enact positive change in one's life

    Cons

Too many layers of middle management; totally inept and out of touch with the day to day operations of a given community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top heavy, new CEO should look at overhead immediately, trim all layers upon layers of fat.

Culture errored at regional and corporate level. BSL needs to walk their talk...

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great culture at the community level frequently. Great dining standards. Strong administrators in some locations. Some communities have nice remodels. BSL does care about its residents. Great sales training program.

    Cons

Rude, disrespectful regional and divisional associates. Do not treat subordinates respectfully. Unacceptable rudeness and "THREAT" driven culture. Milwaukee associates are frequently rude to community associates. Culture can feel very "McDonalds" of LTC. Promotions based on good boy network and friendships rather than "performance based". **Large $ investment in sales director training (BSS). No investment in RN director training. Hmmmm.... This clearly defines, in monetary investment terms, BSL priorities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review the culture you create with your directors. Do YOU uphold the mission statement statement? What are your interactions with your ED's? Are they respectful. Create the culture you preach.
