Pros

Sara Terry, Vice President of Progamming, leads the greatest programming and value to set Brookdale Senior Living apart from all the competitors. Sara and her team, create, train and coach the management team and the community leaders to infuse the Brookdale Mission to honor each individual resident. Brookdale Senior Living recognizes the emotional, spiritual, physical, cognitive and social needs of their residents.

Cons

Recent changes in senior management limit the support the communities may receive. However, the access to resources is outstanding and should be available even with limited one-on-one community leadership support.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay innovative and keep the residents at the center of every decision.

They are all about the money they receive---not the care the residents should receive!

    Pros

The cons outweigh the pros. Pay is fairly decent within the industry. There is opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

Company has champagne taste on a beer bottle budget. There is an enormous lack of concern for any person beneath upper management. Executive directors are not able to make decisions, yet are held accountable for decisions made. Forget having a family life when you join Brookdale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take off your blinders and really look at yourselves and what should be important rather than how much money you can make to open a new community. You are losing sight that you are in a caring industry and caring for people.

    Pros

The residents, I to this day, still LOVE my residents.

    Cons

Blatantly lied to by my ED when asked about service realignment. Was never given a chance to succeed. Was terminated improperly by their own company standards. EXTREMELY underpaid and overworked (multiple days of 20+ hours because I was salaried).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be honest with your employees. Don't say one thing during a meeting and document another. Don't lie to your employees when they figure out your are eliminating their position what your long term plan is and are confronted about it. Don't hire your friends and assign their job responsibilities according to their position description to another position because you can.
