It is all about the money for the company and not the residents.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time for more than a year

Pros

Pay was competitive for some positions. They make certain they get every red cent out of their employees. Healthcare benefits were reasonable. You can eat in the community if you are lucky enough to be in one with decent food.

Cons

Executive Directors are hired puppets and are afraid to take a stand for themselves or their team. Regional management are rude and ruthless and do not care about anyone except for having themselves look good. They have their favorite communities and employees in each facility and the rest of the people and communities are lacking which hurts the residents.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get over yourselves and have confidence in the people you hire. Do not hire people you want to control. Hire people who will do the job and appreciate them. The industry is for the residents, who pay your salaries, so how about treating them with respect and acknowledge them when you visit the communities. It is not about you. It should be about the residents. I would never move any of my family into a Brookdale community after knowing and seeing what really happens in a community.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time for more than a year

    Pros

.Great communities, residents are a joy(mostly), strong successful company with stability. Flexible work hours

    Cons

The company is a public traded one and quite successful; so, I am not naive enough to not realize why the financials are pushed hard. The negative management style is hard to deal with on a day to day basis. And, it is really not necessary. You have good reliable employees who will get their jobs done without the chaos imposed by management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems someone should take a GOOD look at all the reports, internal audits, fluff stuff that could be ditched in order to focus on what is really important which is the residents. Couldn't Regional Management all over the country get together and decide what could be eliminated without effecting the bottomline?

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Brookdale is the largest senior living organization in the nation allowing them to continuously reinvent their brand within the industry. They are an extremely proactive and innovative company that stays ahead of trends and even regulatory changes. They like to hire and promote from within.

    Cons

These are the "Golden Years" for the majority of the people you service and unfortunately sometimes after building these great relationships and friendships, some of them do pass away. (Knowing that you have provided a positive living environment is what makes it worthwhile)
