I worked at Brookings Institution as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Positive work environment. Some of the best minds in the field. Senior fellows well-networked. Everyone loves their jobs. Everyone loves working at Brookings. Has a great reputation.

Cons

Pay could be better (though generous vacation time helps make up for this).

    I worked at Brookings Institution

    Pros

The quality of people you will meet at Brookings is extremely high. Few places offer the same access to government officials and high impact researchers and academics.

    Cons

You have to take the initiative to meet people. People won't come to you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage more mixers between interns and staff.

As long as you understand the limitations, it's a great place to work. I would work there again.

    I worked at Brookings Institution

    Pros

-Work done by scholars are cutting edge
-Very smart people who are mostly dedicated to the job
-People are friendly overall with only a few prima donnas
-Institution is funded enough to have a lot more resources than the average nonprofit
    -Relatively good work hours
-Fantastic benefits incl. 5 wks of vacation plus sick days

    Cons

-Your work experience is largely dictated by who you work for and which department you are in
-Research and Admin are separate silos and rarely does one cross from one to the other
-There have been high turnover on the administrative side due to a troubled ERP implementation process
-No institutional investment in the professional development of staff

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Invest in the professional development by staff, not just in terms of money but in terms of hosting workshops, sending out emails or providing an informal mentoring structure internally
