I have been working at Brookline Bancorp
Pros – Working for a small bank allows you to know every employee in the company. It allows you to know exactly who you need to call and in what department. It also allows the company to be very agile. I also believe this company is set in stone to be in business for a very long time. It is one of the best capitalized banks in the area, and the management is very capable. Simply the fact that most employees of the bank have been here at least 5 years, even on the retail side, speaks for itself.
Cons – Being a small company, the opportunity for advancement is small. There are less positions to fill, which can lead to frustration when opportunities do open up and there is a large pool of very deserving and able employees.
Advice to Senior Management – When goals like two new branches per year are announced, try to stick to it. One full year without opening any branches, briefly after reinforcing the two branch per year standard is a bit confusing and frustrating.
