I have been working at Brookstone

Pros

The hours allow for plenty of vacation time and there is a good employee discount (especially on things like mattresses).

Cons

There is little chance for movement within the company because not a lot of hiring from within. Upper management can be greedy which affects hours worked, pay and bonus structure. There is also a lot of employee turnover which means that if you are working in management you will be constantly recruiting, hiring, and training new people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should really talk to your employees and see what new ideas they have. We really spend a lot of time with our customers and know what they want and need. A lot of sales are lost because we don't sell a product that could be profitable or because certain stores do not carry certain items.

    I worked at Brookstone

    Pros

great products, specialty retail, discount program, benefits for full time employees, brand recognition, will give you experience working in a high stress environment

    Cons

if you do not give 110% loyalty, ie work as many hours as needed to get the job done (work 60 hours, always on call) instead of posted 45 hrs you will not get anything complete

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

it is impossible to work single coverage and still cover all the zones in the store, handle stock, process all the store mail and email that is required with the amount of payroll received
