I have been working at Brown University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hands down the best students I've taught. Because the "New Curriculum" allows them to take only classes that interest them, with no distribution requirements, just about every student has selected your class out of thousands of others because it interests them, so they are smart and engaged.

    Cons

The administration is a bit conservative, and increasingly the Med School gets all of the money and buzz. The arts and humanities are not nearly as well funded. Also, there's an explicit change to tenure review; the administration wants to make it much harder to get tenure than it is now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Given that folks who get tenure track jobs here are by and large at the top of their fields and mostly more productive than senior faculty, the administration might think twice before looking to places like Harvard as an example. Famous professors are often not nearly as engaged with their students.

I have been working at Brown University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice city/neighborhood, nice food and amenities with decent working environment.

    Cons

still exploring but not enough emphasis on graduate students, but I can feel the dynamics is gradually changing for the better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More resources on professional development, especially non-academic, for graduate students would be highly welcomed!
