Pros

Great people, excellent learning opportunities, immaculate, nowhere else like it.

Cons

Some divisions among units that could easily be rectified. A bit too compartmentalized and easy to get stuck in monotony as opposed to given access to hand on experience on other units.
The pay is not that competitive given it's a non-for-profit.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what your doing and get through these tough economic times. Its a very special place and I hope it stays that way.

    I worked at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital

    Pros

    Fellow Staff are great nice, helpful,and sweet. Price for lunch in the caferteria is very reasonable, great salad bar. Free parking. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Benefits : health insurance is good for the money and includes dental & vision. 4 weeks off. One sick day for every month that you work. Penision after 5 years. One laptop to each PT for all eletronic documentation.

    Cons

    Pay is much lower than anywhere else in the area. Promotions are limited and are only offered 2x a year to maybe one or two indiviualds. Management does not really know what the therapist are doing and don't really interact too much with staff. They are always in meetings. Hard to get time off due to big staff. Staff retention is poor and a very high turnover in all PT departments. Limited people to go to who have experience. Average time PT staff at Burke is 2-3 years. Lots of new grads. hired. Not enough time for documentation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try to keep staff, and hire staff with more experience. Ask yourself why are so many leaving, and what can we do to keep good staff. When you have several staff leaving from one unit or department look to the supervisor as the reason. Supervisors need to be more accountable for the actions of all their staff. Some of the Supervisors / Team leaders come in late, leave early and don't really care about what is going on or patient care. They are the leaders and should lead by example. When they don't care, their staff won't care and creates poor morale.

    Therapist should be paid more. Listen to the lower staff and meet with them, get to know them. Look to more grants and research that is done with the PT department. Have both PT & OT departments try to present at national conferences, and publish articles or case presentations.

    I have been working at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital

    Pros

    The campus is beautiful and well-maintained, all year round. The cafeteria food is of very high quality, great-tasting and with many healthy options. There are many opportunities for advancement especially for those who show initiative. This work place also take continuing education very seriously and staff are constantly being introduced to new treatment methods, machines, technologies and any other advancements that are being made in rehabilitation medicine.

    Cons

    There is very little outdoor seating which is unfortunate because the campus itself is beautiful. Parking rules and regulations can be quite inconvenient for some employees. There is very little cross-training between departments and therefore employees are prone to undervaluing others due to ignorance of one another's job responsibilities.
