I have been working at Burke Williams full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Co-workers are extremely helpful and friendly. The General Manager at my location is veryy attentive and accomodating. Wellness program for employees has beenn upgraded to 50min massages every other month. Benefits for long-standing employees have been re-vamped as well as pay structure to reflect time spent at the company.

Cons

There still seems to be a disconnect between upper department managers and corporate managers. The new client impact manager for the location I work at seemms inexperienced with the spa environment and seems to have no interest in her fellow co-workers and how she can better relate to them and/or help them.

Advice to Management

Continue to seek out star employees and encourage them to motivate their felows. Recognize a job well done. Try to fill in the gaps in management. Look for a new client impact manager, preferably someone from within Burke or who at least understands spa relations.

I have been working at Burke Williams part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You work with some very knowledgable and pleasant individuals. Breakroom is always a great place to vent your frustrations...regardless of management's disapproval. You can trade your services with each other for much needed love and care. We are truly the only people at the company who appreciate us.

    Cons

Career Ops: A place where someone with less than six months exp and zero mgt background can be your manager...guess thats a good thing...depending on who you end up being in this equation... Compensation and Benefits: Guess what new hires: you're at the bottom of the barrel...making absolutely ZERO commission for your first two years....but wait...you still have to do the work of commission treatments...you just dont get paid for it... Benefits for a single person with ZERO dependants will run you about $200. a month just for medical coverage. All the good 'benefits' arent available until after your THIRD YEAR with the company fyi...so all the so called recent great reviews arent giving you all the pertinent info. NO incentive to work weekends or have repeat clients other than at your annual review where you may or may not qualify for the next up in your pay...but thats a whole year away kids...except new hires...thats TWO years away... Work Life and Balance: Good co-workers seem to be dropping like flies since the new pay system was implemented. Watch out for 'mandatory' meetings and work days (even if you aren't scheduled normally to work that day) Senior Mgt - self entitled dictators with a : do as i say not as i do, mentality. Culture and Values: You are always wrong when a client complains for any reason...even the OBVIOUS LIES are all your fault. They will discount a client's treatment, no questions asked and then pull you into a meeting to go over what you did wrong. There is a pretense of getting to the bottom of how to improve but the underlying agenda is for you to take responsibility for not being a mind reader or a magician.

    Advice to Management

Lean that your employees are an extension of the company, not your personal property. Adopt a better procedure of dealing with them other than the standard rolled newspaper to a bad dog approach. An attack on them is an attack on you and the company. Sometimes the customer isn't right and it just might be time to make that apparent.

    Pros

Great medical benefits, great place to start your career in health and wellness/spa industry. Great wellness program for employees, employee discount on services

    Cons

Not very up to date with services and products that are offered. Spas could use a facelift
