A high-quality company with great principles but a tough value proposition.

    Pros

The people at Corporate are mostly really high quality. I like how buttoned-up and organized operations generally are. Burkhart has really stuck to it's values over time in terms of focusing on the higher-quality products and a holistic approach to improving their clients' dental practices. Definitely a family business feel, which I like, especially at HQ in Tacoma. The Supply Savings Guarantee really works, and it's magical when a dentist just clicks and gets why Burkhart is different.

    Cons

At the end of the day it's retail sales of mostly commodity products to customers who seem wired to look for bargains. The winners in those scenarios are mostly going to be Burkhart's big competitors Patterson and Schein. I also think management has been too timid in enforcing high standards and holding people accountable. This isn't the highest-paying business, and it's hard to get new people up to speed quickly, but bad attitudes have been allowed to pollute the air for others.

    Advice to Management

Enforce high standards. Recognize and reward those who smile while doing the hard work. Don't allow bad attitudes even from AMs and techs who have been around a long time.

    Pros

The family feel is great and most people really care about their jobs and the company. A lot of people have been there a long time which is both good and bad. The people are really nice and they do a lot of fun things like potlucks and contests.

    Cons

The company hasn't changed in years. It's very hard to get anything done unless you're part of the in crowd. Projects fail and no one is held accountable for them. The culture is different depending on who your manager is.

    Advice to Management

Please try to save Burkhart. It could be such a great company but it won't be until things are fixed and we stop losing talented people. Keep the clients in mind first.
