I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Gain customer service experience, flexible with hours, store discount.

    Cons

Work long hours sometimes 9-10 hours (always weekends) with sometimes only one lunch break, raises received are very small even after working there for many years, customers dislike the layaway and return policies and take it out on the cashiers.

I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Paid every week, Casual environment, Opportunity to connect with customers

    Cons

Rude, incompetent and unprofessional managers, Low wages, Hours cut at the last minute, Can neither access nor modify your schedule at home, Inflexible hours, Slave labor mentality. If an employee is scheduled to leave at 9pm, then don't coerce that person to stay until 10:30pm. What kind of retail shop begins recovery when the gates are lowered? Don't phone your employees the day before a shift to casually inform him or her that the hours have been cut. People have to earn a living! Learn how to address your employees in a professional manner. Granted, it's retail and we're all under a lot of stress; however, one must act like a lady and leave one's attitude and swearing at the door. This is a business not a hockey game! Managers need to learn team building, positive reinforcement, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, and time management. If they don't catch on, they'll inevitably get left behind. No company will PROMOTE an emotionally immature manager who cannot control her temper, manage company time, and retain employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead by example! If you want your cashiers to provide a friendly and pleasant environment for customers, don't turn around and do the complete opposite! Shouting and hurling abuse at an employee on the sales floor in full view of customers? Are you barking mad?
