I worked at Burns & McDonnell full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Employee stock plan if you last long enough to fully vest. Company growing. Better for experienced people rather than new grads. Offices are different in each city....some better than others. Diverse practice areas offer variety and ability to learn different industries.

Cons

Everyone too busy to mentor. Asked to take on work without appropriate training. Work cyclical and fear of layoffs too often. Vesting period too long and too much compensation is back end loaded.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better mentoring and training.

I worked at Burns & McDonnell as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Some Team Building, Organized approach

    Cons

Too much time focused on differences of 'Employee vs. Contractor' relationships. They actually have badges that have the "E" and the "C" on it to separate. It's like wearing a yellow star in 1930's European society.
Upper management focuses on obtaining younger people to have them work for next to nothing and have the older experienced people used as contractors and discarded for sake of the bottom line.
Management has been enslaved by the ESOP. They are willing to sacrifice putting their best effort for maintaining the bottom line.
Management is slow to recognize talent. Older employees do not mentor but protect their turf by not sharing information on a timely basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the effort to have the employee/contractor relationships in the company more seamless
