I worked at Burns & McDonnell full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Competitive compensation, most people are friendly, good benefits. There are plenty of afterwork activities that allows you to build relationships with your coworkers.

Cons

They need to do some house cleaning on management in CDB. Management does not listen to any input and the processes are out of date. If you have any ideas to stream line a process, then good luck because your idea will be shot down. Systems are out of date, and some management does not have integrity.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you plan on keeping talent, then go back to your roots. The new managment is poor at communication and they wont take responsibility for their roles. Invest in training rather than focusing on billable time. It will save the client money in the long run.

I worked at Burns & McDonnell as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

They sell ydou on the ESOP and it sounds great. Many long term employees. Seem to have numerous projects.

    Cons

But you get hired as a contract employee and are segregated from employee training on their system and locked out of many areas. Managers are protective of their turf. The Chicago office feels like a morgue. I had a phone call with another PM to review some items, even though we were in adjacement cubes and it astonished him when I walked "next door". They never requested my safety training info even though I was on several sites that needed it. Also answered to two bosses, very odd. Cell phone reimbursement all but impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're going to expand, have a plan and cleaner lines of command and control.
