Pros

The amount of knowledge you gain about baby products is crazy. Most customers are nice and are new so they will really look to you for that knowledge. Management is generally nice people.

Cons

Unrealistic expectations from management. Customers always come first to the company, but if management has a project for you the balance of helping everybody that comes in the store and geting things done can be hard at times.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Customers are always most important but make sure your employees feel just as important.

I have been working at Buy Buy Baby full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They pay well if you come with experience. You get discounts at Bed Bath and World Market.

    Cons

Priorities are not in line. They run management into the ground. Stores are not profitable and no advancement potential. They were supposed to open 300 stores in five yrs, last year they opened 3. Focus is on new registrants not on customers spending money in the store. They are happy to have all associates walking with new registrants and NO ONE assisting customers spending money today!! They keep cutting hours and make management fill in on the floor for hourly positions yet still expect you to get your job done while assisting customers then at the end of the week actually have the nerve to ask why your work isn't done. A DM actually said to me " We can't spend one more hour on payroll", then the very next sentence, "we need to increase our staff to provide better customer service"
Managers that perform poorly do not get removed from the business in a timely manner. This continues to disrupt the business and it takes the store longer to recover.
Area managers and District managers do not lead by example. Area Manager will sit in the office on a busy Sat while lines form at the register. They are desperate for customers and take anything back as a return. Customers know this and take advantage. Customers will but a $700 stroller, use it until the kid has outgrown it then bring it back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a grip on reality. RM's and DM's should come down from their glass tower and do surprise visits instead of the dog and pony show that is presented when you visit so you can see what's actually happening in your stores. You will then realize that the stores need more hours to run the business the way you expect. You will see the stores are not being recovered, shelves are not being filled, customers are not being assisted. You think by holding the registrants hand will help future business, well in six months when people come to buy off that registry, we will still be helping people scan and not helping the people spending money. The only way to increase sales is to assist the people in the store NOW and adding on to those sales. It's impossible to do that if the entire staff is walking around with a new registrant. If you want both then you need to supply the stores with the hours to do so. Get a handle on your return policy and start making a profit. Stop being so desperate for customers. This isn't Bed Bath, you don't have these customers for a lifetime you have them for 4 years. If they return all of their high ticket items, they aren't coming back to buy more because their child has now outgrown the business. Just because you don't take back used, worn out items doesn't mean you are not providing good customer service.
