Pros

A great place to learn about college sports and producing a web site, great experience working in a web 2.0 environment.

Cons

it's difficult to get ahead unless you have an offer from a rival company. don't even think about taking vacation time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

spend more money on additional staffing. do more to keep existing staff happy. set up more formal vacation time and protocol.

CBS Interactive is a media company with a lot of potential, but the wrong incentives and culture to take risks.

I have been working at CBS Interactive

    Pros

The work environment is usually very laid back, and in some departments, there is little micromanaging and overly burdensome requirements. Because of that, there are a lot of opportunities and freedom to experiment, but not necessarily the support.

    Cons

The company operates very, very slowly. In order to undertake initiatives, it's a necessity to get upper management's active support. While that makes sense, it doesn't in the online world, where media and reactions need to change very rapidly. For some departments, it's also so easy that many employees feel that they can "phone" it in, so to speak.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sales gets plenty of compensation, but for the content and editorial side, there must be a recognition and compensation for good ideas and initiatives that don't necessarily add direct dollars to the bottom-line. Furthermore, much of your editorial staff are experts on media and technology. Talk to them, recognize them and give them a reason to want to engage.

No the right job for me, but good co-workers, and great boss.

    Pros

Fun employee gatherings, good co-workers and great boss. Most people were friendly and helpful. It was fun knowing that Gamespot worked in the same building.

    Cons

Career growth wasn't what I expected. A lot of the jobs at the time were outside hires, and the company didn't seem to promote much from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparency with the leadership at the CBS Interactive would help. All-hands meeting were interesting and motivating, so more would be great. I think the company can attract even more talent if the work environment seems more fun and less corporate.
