Stable, secure company. Internal organization needs more thought.

I have been working at CBS Interactive full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Stable job, don't really need to worry about lay offs. Excellent work-life balance. Constant re-platforming provides a lot of opportunities to learn and develop new skills. Food Truck Fridays in the summer. Happy hour once a month. Easy to commute with BART.

    Cons

Annual summer re-orgs, some of the management in my department sits on an analytical high horse and berates and belittles when you don't read their minds and/or disagree or have an alternative approach, no support for personal development. A consistent sense that your performance is never good enough, a lot of inflated sense of self importance on the team I was part of. Lack of support when it comes to managing work load and setting priorities. Really have to fight for raises (if you get a raise, you're lucky, if it's more than 1.5% you're doing well) and negotiate initial salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really think through the re-orgs and determine if the plan truly makes sense. Placing a team under a director with little to no experience with their job functions is not acceptable. When working with a demanding team (in both a good and bad sense) make sure manager support is there to firmly set priorities and have your back. Keep your promises, especially when it comes to adding additional team members.
